Industry Museum / Dokuma Sanayi Müzesi
Simongoglu textile mill is one of the oldest industrial campuses in Adana, located in the ancient Cilicia region. Spanning 28,000m2 of closed area and 36,000m2 in total, this historic site caught the attention of the Ministry of Culture in 2013, leading to a decision to renovate and repurpose the former factory into a cultural hub. TEATI had the privilege of being part of a dedicated team entrusted with the master plan for the area. We took charge of conceptualizing the exhibition design for five distinct museums housed within the campus: the Archeology and Mosaics Museum, the Museum of Agriculture, the Textile Industry Museum, and the City Museum. The exhibition and its mode of presentation, including the scenography, have been designed in the original historical setting of the textile mill, covering 12,000 square meters of exhibition space across four buildings, each uniquely designed for their distinct museum function. The construction of this remarkable project spanned eight years, with the final phase launched in 2023 which was a long-term endeavor. In the 3rd phase of restoration TEATI transformed mechanical and production unites into 4000m2 of Industrial Heritage Museum. Textile Production Methods and Technologies, Dyeing Techniques, Development of Garment Industry, Hydropower and Renewable Energy are some of the themes that shapes the curatorial design.
