date: 14/01/2024 SIDE MUSEUM UNLEASHES RENOVATION:
In 25 BCE, Emperor Augustus reformed the administration, and according to new provisions Pamphilia, and Side, was incorporated into the Roman province of Galatia. The wealth of the city during this period came from the olive oil trade. Wealthy traders allocated a significant proportion of their income for the development of the city and its beautification. They sponsored new public buildings, gladiatorial combats and games. Most of the ancient buildings preserved until today in Side date back to this period. (Izabela Miszczak)
One of these buildings, Agora Bath, serves as Archaeological Museum of Side. Most of the works exhibited in the museum unearthed by the excavations carried out in Side between 1947-1967 under the direction of Ord. Prof. Dr. Arif Müfid MANSEL. TEATİ is now responsible for the renovation of the museum concept.
